Holiday Compliments

Last night we had some guests over for dinner and cards. Each of them arrived separately, but each of them had the same compliment for us – “It’s so nice and cozy in here”. One of our guests even suggested that we could leave our renovation in the state it’s at, sans walls and everything. With the radiant floor heating, the fireplace burning, the tree shining, the iPod playing, and Trissa’s cooking smelling delicious, our place was truly homey. Thanks everyone, that’s exactly what we needed to hear.

My folks are visiting the week of Christmas and many of the items on our home-improvement checklist that were scheduled to be crossed-off by then are not done. The most glaring item is our French doors – they sit on sawhorses in the dining room awaiting several more coats of spar varnish. They may have to wait until the new year.

Work has been a bear this season, and it’s been keeping me away from projects, and I dare say, out of the holiday spirit. But I finished my major shopping yesterday (Trissa’s getting a nice surprise), and I think I’ll be able to catch up on my cheer. Especially after those nice compliments last night.

I am impressed you did a tree amidst the work- what a nice thing to do. We did our shopping yesterday too. It seems like this time of year is just impossible to really focus on projects- too many distractions. But come January- look out!

I am so looking forward to a nice x-mas dinner at our house with a tree, presents and pets! :)

I am having the same issues. I have a ton of stuff to do before my relatives get here for xmass. Plus I didn’t do a tree or anything. I still need to do some shopping for xmass, but I figured that I could give them cash if I ran out of time. I think it’s better that they have things like a floor and heating when they visit than a nice doodad from Sharper Image.
