Holiday

First off, thank you to all the troops that our currently serving our county, all those who have, and special rememberance for those who died serving their country.

No, we haven’t been on holiday for the past few weeks, so I thought I’d give a quick update.

  • The concrete countertops are complete and installed. We’ll try to get some good pictures later today.
  • The countertop for the baking center was very heavy and thanks to our wonderful friends we were able to get it up the stairs and installed without injury or damage to the counter.
  • Nick installed the trim around the top of the cabinets yesterday & it looks great.
  • The under-the-counter lights are installed on the cabinets above the sink.
  • The house is clean.
  • Atticus is moving faster and faster and loves to watch whatever Nick is doing.
  • Today Nick is going to work on installing the trim around the back door.

There’s still a lot to do, but here’s the short “to-do” list before we can call the first floor complete:

  • finish installing trim around back door and the french doors
  • strip, paint, and install baseboard trim
  • build built-in bookshelves between foyer and dining room
  • grout the tile around the fireplace
  • choose, purchase and install tile for backsplash in kitchen. (We found a cool local company, but their tile is pricey. They make great glass tiles out of recycled glass: Bedrock Industries)
  • Finish paneling and drawer fronts in kitchen and varnish them
  • Install hardware for cabinets and drawers
  • Finish trim for pocket door to the 1/2 bath
  • Build and install sink in 1/2 bath
  • Varnish bead board ceiling in 1/2 bath

Then there’s everything else we want to do, but the major things are:

  • replace the roof
  • new windows
  • remove old asbestos siding, and hopefully use the old siding underneath
  • put in some sort of retaining wall or rockery in back yard
  • build a deck in the back

And if we were extremely rich:

  • excavate into the hill in front of the house and put in a garage that goes under the sidewalk! (That’s dreaming!)

I wonder what other people’s “dream” project would be if there were no limitations like money or what the local permits would allow…?
