24 hours between me and the weekend... and counting.
We’re having a party on Saturday night, with about 30 people coming over. I think this is likely the most people we’ve had over at once. Officially it’s a birthday party, but unofficially it’s a pre-demo party. Once the party’s over, our plan is to begin packing up the first floor and move everything upstairs and out of the way so we can begin demolition. I need to remember to take a bunch of pictures (with my new camera!) at the party as “before” pics. I’m just now thinking how cool it would be to invite the same people over this time next year for an “after” party.
With the party tomorrow night, I doubt we’ll get much actual renovation done this weekend, but I wouldn’t be surprised if we started packing things up a few things on Sunday morning!
What’s everyone else got planned this weekend?

We’re building a fence this weekend. That’s cool, a pre-demo party. We haven’t even had a house warming for our place, hopefully when we’re mostly done the renos, we can have some kind of party.

I am so sorry we won’t be able to be there for the pre-demo party! I am sure I’ll be much of the work post-demo.
What I want to know is, what other great wisdom can you pass along regarding the radient floors? Since the kids’ bathroom is starting to get worked on now, I was thinking of adding it. It’s a small room so I can’t imagine it will be much, but what questions should I ask of my architect, designer and contractor? I know using those folks isn’t really DIY, but I have a spouse who is not nearly as handy as you are, Nick!
Have fun at the party…

Gloria - it’s usually relatively easy to add radiant floor heating to a bathroom. They make a special electric mat that gets installed under whatever floor covering you choose (typically tile). To have it installed, you’ll need an electrician to wire it up and a carpenter or mason to install the mat and replace the floor.

We will be tiling our backsplash in the kitchen this weekend and some other and ends. I’m impressed you balance the social life and remodeling, we can be so isolationist here in a way- not structured social events anyway like parties! Sounds like you have some good friend helpers sometimes also- way to go. I really enjoy your site!

You should have some markers on hand and encourage people to write graffiti on the walls that you intend to knock out. You can have some real fun with it! I was at a party like that in the early 1990s. The bad news was they didn’t knock down the wall in the end and spent a good amount of time repainting it!

That’s an awesome idea, Gary. I think we’ll do it, and post pictures here afterwards. And I think I’ll choose ONE wall that we’re certain to knock down :)
