Our new kitchen

True to our plan, we hosted a party on Saturday night and began packing up the kitchen on Sunday morning. We woke up Sunday, drank our coffee, and headed to Costco and Home Depot for a storage rack and storage crates. The crates are numbered and their contents are catalogued (in case we absolutely need a loaf pan), and they’re all stored away up in the back bedroom closet. The rack was a good purchase - $75 at Costco. It stands about seven feet tall with six shelves, and has wheels. Our plan is to wheel it around and keep it out of the way of the demolition focal point. We’ll make a plastic drape for it to keep dust off of our plates, although I have no delusions that we’ll actually be successful in that.

It was a STRANGE feeling packing up the kitchen. To me it sure felt as if we were packing up to move. I kept thinking “we’ll never be using these cabinets again…” They’re old and tired, but they’ve been good to us. Next weekend they’re coming out.

This morning, old habits were evident, and for a moment I thought someone had stolen our juice glasses. But they were there, just 4 of them, on the dinner-ware shelf of the new kitchen.
